Waffle Iron Omelettes

These waffle iron omelettes are the fluffiest eggs you’ll ever make- and they’re ready in just minutes! Much much more fun than your typical omelette.

Waffle Iron Omelettes

Sooooo, I got a waffle iron, but I didn’t really get it to make waffles. I got it to make cool looking waffle iron grilled cheese –which was a success, by the way. The waffle iron wasn’t expensive,  but I still have to justify it by using this mechanism more than once. The thing is, I’m just not ready to use it for its intended purpose yet. Where’s the fun in that?

Luckily, sitting in an air conditioned office all day gives me plenty of time to conjure up ideas on what to make when I get home. The problem is, I forget about the fact that it’s steaming hot outside. Just as I venture out to the store to get what I need, the hot sun hits me hard and I realize that making boiling hot dip in a cast iron skillet in a 400 degree oven is much less appealing than it was a second ago. Hmph.

Okay, so back to the waffle iron omelettes…
Well it definitely solved my no-oven usage issue. And breakfast for dinner is fun, so why not whip up an omelette in the waffle iron?! Would that work? — YES. The answer to that is YES. These were, shockingly, the most fluffy, delicious eggs ever. The key is to cook on low heat and for just a few minutes.

The filling options for these omelettes are endless.
You can add Onions, Peppers, Pepperoni, Black Olives, Sausage, Tomatoes, Bacon, Pulled Pork, various Cheeses… the list never ends I tell you.

Waffle Iron Omelettes

5 from 15 ratings
These are the lightest and fluffiest eggs you'll ever eat, filled with your favorite toppings and cooked perfectly right in your waffle iron.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/8 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 sausage link, cooked and diced
  • 1 Tablespoon bell pepper, dcied
  • 1 Tablespoon yellow onion, diced
  • Salt/Pepper, to taste
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Instructions

  • Coat top and bottom of the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray and preheat- (I kept mine on the "min" setting, this left the eggs light and fluffy!)
  • In a small bowl, crack the eggs and add the additional filling ingredients. Whisk vigorously, incorporating as much air as possible as you do so. Immediately add them to the waffle iron.
  • Check on eggs after 2 minutes, cook for 1 additional minute if needed.
  • Shut off heat and remove carefully with a fork. Garnish with chives or green onions if desired and enjoy!

  1. I’m assuming you do not flip the iron, or do you as no one stated how to cook once in the iron. Like just shut the lid or shut the lid and flip

  2. I’m thinking of buying the cuisinart vertical waffle maker. Can you make these recipes for omelettes etc in the vertical?

    • Hi Linda,
Unfortunately I haven’t tested the recipe in a vertical waffle maker and I don’t have one to try it out. If you do end up trying it out I would love to hear how it comes out!

  3. How big is your waffle iron (and is it circular)?

  4. What size of egg for this recipe?

  5. I made these for the first time this morning. I mixed a little bit of Everything But the Bagel Seasoning and some goat cheese before I put the two eggs in the waffle iron. When they were done I put a little bit of colby jack on top and stacked them like two waffles and seriously they were the best eggs I have ever made! I can’t wait to make them again 🙂 Thanks for the amazing recipe!!!

    • Hey Laura!! I’m so Happy you enjoyed the eggs!!! You just made me hungry! It’s nice to be able to use the waffle iron for something other than waffles, right? Thanks for taking the time to comment and rate! Have a great weekend! -Stephanie

  6. My waffle iron must be a different size because I made a big ole mess my first try… but the egg which stayed in and got cooked was delicious! I like a simple spinach and cheese combo myself. I love how much crispy surface area I get with the waffle indents! Thanks muchly. Happy solstice and best wishes.

  7. For those of us with smaller waffle irons, I kinda messed up last night and made a huge mess. I recommend a couple things. 1) use less eggs. OR 2) cook the eggs then the toppings. Or vice versa if you include cheese. I ended up with probably 1 whole egg on my counter top. But, it worked out very well in the end! I ended up scrambling everything together and it worked just fine!

  8. Hi Stephanie!

I made these fun omelettes for Melanie and her family and they were wonderful! She had a great idea for them too – use small pieces of Canadian Bacon instead of the sausage, and serve them with Hollandaise Sauce and English Muffins. I’m going to try it the next time I make them. Thanks for a fun idea!

    • Hey Alice!!! Oh it’s soooo cool that you made these and you guys were able to enjoy that, that makes my heart melt! I absolutely love Melanie’s variation ideas, oh my gosh! Thanks for taking the time to comment, means a lot to me! 🙂

  9. thank you for this! i feel dumb for not thinking of this before. i love omelettes but im so horrible at making them fr some reason. when i try and fold them over it never works the way i want. ive been thinking of buying a omelette maker but after trying this i dont need one cause these came out perfect. thanks again!

    • Hi Christy! I am so happy that you enjoyed this recipe!! I actually just busted out my waffle maker the other day and made the CRISPIEST hash browns in the world, oh my gosh, you have to try that next! The recipe will be posted soon, it’s super easy. You can make it to go with these omelettes, haha! Thanks for commenting and rating!

  10. I did NOT want to deal with our old not so non-stick pan to make an omelet but I had a hankering. I quickly Googled “omelet in waffle iron” to see if my house would burn down and got your article at the very top. Quick read and then BAM I had super quick and easy omelets. Thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU for the inspiration!!!

    • Hey Bernadette! WAHOOOOOOOO!! That is amazing news, I am so happy! It’s REALLY funny because I was inches away from making a waffle iron omelette this morning too! But I opted for pancakes. So funny! Thanks for your comment!!!
