Toby! Have you met Toby? He’s my little baby.
Ever since I bought these cute little dog treat molds, I can’t seem to stop making him cute little treats in fun little shapes!
Treat-making a great activity with the little ones too, and these make fantastic gifts.
Best Kind of Peanut Butter for dogs:
- All-natural peanut butter without added salt or sugar is best for dogs.
- Do not use light or sugar-free peanut butter, as those may have artificial sweeteners (such as xylitol) which is toxic to dogs.
- I like to use Teddy Smooth All-Natural Peanut Butter, which can also commonly be found in grocery stores.
Can Dogs Have Flour?
In short, yes. But flour can post an allergy to some dogs, and flour is certainly not a necessity in their diet, but rather is used as a binding agent in many treat recipes.
If possible, I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find at the grocery store.
Healthier Flour Alternatives for Dog Treats:
Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum
Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato
Storage
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Freeze for up to 3 months, removing them as you need them and letting them come to room temperature.
Dog Treats as Gifts:
- These treats make fantastic gift ideas and are perfect for giving in these little canisters!
- Treat-making and gift-giving is also a great activity for little ones, (with your assistance of course!)

Just made these for my three big dogs and they love them ! Made a double batch and did not roll them out but rather rolled them into balls, pressed them down and it was just as easy . We’ll definitely make them again !
That’s great to hear Gabrielle! I’m so happy to hear it, have a WONDERFUL weekend and Happy New Year!!
I made these wonderful treats (gluten free) and brought them up to the lake house for our family Christmas celebration. Both of our grand-dogs loved them!!!!!! Thanks!!!
Hi Aunt Alice!!! That’s such great news, I’m so happy! I hope you had a wonderfulllllllll Christmas!!!!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Hey! Quick question. I didn’t have any cookie cutters. So, I rolled each treat into a ball and flattened each one down. They are about a half of an inch to an inch thick.
Is that okay?
Hi Stephanie! That is absolutely fine! Enjoy!!
I did this and my dog loved it thank you!
Hi Derick! I’m so happy that your dog loved these, and I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know! 🙂 Have a great week! -Stephanie
Hi! My Papipoo just loves these but I am wondering how dried out they should be. Mine are firm on the outside but are more of a chewy texture – not crispy. Is that normal? I want to ensure I’m baking them long enough. Thanks!
Hi Angie! I apologize that I wasn’t able to respond to this yesterday. A slightly chewy interior is just fine! If you wanted, you could still pop them back in the oven for another 5-10 minutes, but as long as they’re cooked through and not raw in the middle, you’re good! 🙂
Hi there! I tried baking this and they smell so good! But i have a problem with the centre part of the cookies. Are they supposed to be crunchy or a little bit soft at the centre? Thanks!
Hi Stella! They should be more on the crunchy side. If the center is still soft then I’d pop them back in the oven for 5 more minutes or so, then let them sit out and they will firm up!
I’m so excited to make these for my Tahlulla! Is the oatmeal used quick, old-fashioned, or steelcut? And thanks for all these awesome recipes!!!
Hi Erin! These are made with Old Fashioned oats! 🙂 I can’t wait for you to make them for your pup!!!
These look great! It would be fun to make this with kids!
Thanks for sharing! Do they keep long?
Hi Vanessa! I like to keep them for 3 days in an airtight container, and then I freeze whatever is left. From there I’ll take a few out at a time, let them come to room temperature and use them in batches like that until they’re gone! 🙂
Hey thanks for the recipe! these are really easy to make and I had everything on hand! They are in the oven!
Oh my gosh that’s amazing! I literally do a happy dance anytime I actually have the recipe ingredients on hand!! I am pumped, your dog will love these!! You’re sweet for making them!
