Toby! Have you met Toby? He’s my little baby.

Ever since I bought these cute little dog treat molds, I can’t seem to stop making him cute little treats in fun little shapes!

Treat-making a great activity with the little ones too, and these make fantastic gifts.

Best Kind of Peanut Butter for dogs:

  • All-natural peanut butter without added salt or sugar is best for dogs.
  • Do not use light or sugar-free peanut butter, as those may have artificial sweeteners (such as xylitol) which is toxic to dogs.
  • I like to use Teddy Smooth All-Natural Peanut Butter, which can also commonly be found in grocery stores.

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. But flour can post an allergy to some dogs, and flour is certainly not a necessity in their diet, but rather is used as a binding agent in many treat recipes.

If possible, I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find at the grocery store.

Healthier Flour Alternatives for Dog Treats:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Storage

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months, removing them as you need them and letting them come to room temperature.

Dog Treats as Gifts:

  • These treats make fantastic gift ideas and are perfect for giving in these little canisters!
  • Treat-making and gift-giving is also a great activity for little ones, (with your assistance of course!)

  1. These look great! Are they very crumbly?

  2. Thanks for sharing! It would be fun to make these with kids!

  3. Hi Elaine! Awwww is your little pup a little bit of a picky eater? I’m surprised he (or she?) is able to say no to them!! I guess I might try putting a little bit of fresh peanut butter on one? I am sorry that it took me a few days to respond to this as well, it’s been one crazy week! PS- Yorkies are my FAV!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I made these for my little jack Russell and he loved it. He waited by the oven for the second batch which I put blueberries on top of them before baking and he LOVED it!

    • Hey Alicia! Ohhhhh that is SO cute that he was waiting by the oven for the next batch of treats, I absolutely love the idea of putting these with blueberries, you just gave me some inspiration for my next treat recipe! The last ones I made were strawberry banana ones, my pup loved them but let’s be honest, he loves them all! 🙂 Jack Russell’s are ADORABLE!!!!! Thank you for your comment Alicia, have a great day!

  5. My 2 year old English Cream Golden Retriever, Lakota,  loves these. We share them with her friend, Francine, a Burnese Mountain dog.
I’ve made them a few times. So easy.
My 8 year old granddaughter has made them and knows the recipe by heart.
I can fit all the cookies on one large cookie sheet because they don’t “spread”. Thank you for this great recipe

    • Hi Brenda! I am SO happy to hear this, that is amazing that your granddaughter know the recipe by heart!! That makes me so happy, what a sweetie. I love “cookies” that don’t spread too!! Hmmm.. I need to whip up another batch of these soon. Of all of the treats I’ve made, I think these are his favorite. Thanks for taking the time to comment! -Stephanie

  6. Made these cookies twice.  Easy to make. My Golden Retriever loved them as did her friend, a Burnese Mountain.
Have to limit intake though as these treats are high in fat and calories.
But a great recipe. Makes a nice gift.

    • Hi Brenda! I’m SO happy to hear that! You’ll have to keep your eye out because I’m coming out with a *new* treat recipe (right about this time next week!) – Strawberry Banana Dog treats! My Toby boy is obsessed! (Okay, they might a little peanut butter in these ones too, haha!)- thanks so much for the comment!

  7. Are these suitable for cats? Have you had any cat testers try them before? Thinking about making these and adding in some catnip for my babies

  8. Sooooo goood!! I tripled the recipe!

  9. Easy to make. I use oat flour (ground oats) so I had to use a bit more than the flour recommendation. Still came out well and pups love them!

  10. Hi
Can I use any peanut butter? I’m sure I’ve read somewhere you may have to use certain ones.
    Many Thanks
    Jo.
