Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.
Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.
Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.
My Dog Toby
My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).
He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Can Dogs Have Flour?
In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.
I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.
Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Hi thank you for the recipe. How many serves does this make. After my dog suffering pancreatitis, I have to be very strict with fat content so I need t work out if he can have this. Thanks
Hi Rosemary. The number of servings depends on the size of the dog, my dog is teeny so this is about 20 servings for him, haha! I would be very careful and if your dog is sensitive it may not be worth risking it, but if you do, very small pieces to start.
Just baked this for our Bichon Missy who’ll turn a year old tomorrow! Very thick batter but it turned out great!! Hope she eats it! (She’s a food snob! Very picky eater – loved Nillas and Ritz crackers and peanut butter but healthy dog food not so much. Guess she’s no different than humans (we like junk don’t we!?)
Hi Carol!!! Ohhh happy birthday to your doggie! I would love to hear how she likes the cake!
Hi: Instead of the vegetable oil have you tried either applesauce or canned pumpkin, My understanding is dogs do not generally do well with vegetable oil and texture is not an issue with dogs. They just care if it tastes good. The vanilla is probably not necessary either.
Hi Aly! I haven’t tried those variations yet but I will! Sounds great! Thank you!
This looks great! Is it very crumbly? Does it last very long?
Hi Vanessa! The cake is actually very moist due to the shredded carrots, honey, and peanut butter! Not crumbly in texture at all. You can store this in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. 🙂
This is such a cute idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Suzanne!
What can you replace wheat flour for? My dog can’t have certain grains.
Hi Leigh! You could sub equal amounts of Rye Flour!
Looks like my girls will be trying out some new treats soon. They live their homemade treats more then store bought. Always nice to try something new and different for them.
Thank you
Yay!!! I can’t wait for your pups to try these homemade treats! Our dog LOVES them!!! 😁
My labs will be 2 on Tuesday. I want to make this but one of them doesn’t care for peanut butter (weird, huh?). What can I substitute it with?
Hi Claudette! How about some homemade doggie cake?! I make that from my pup on his birthday and he absolutely loves it! Or, some apple carrot treats work well too. Here is a link to both of those recipes!

Hello, my fur baby doesn’t like carrots, do I have to add the carrots or is there something else that I can add like sweet potatoes?
Hi Tina! Sweet potatoes would be an excellent substitution! Good thinking!
Hey Stephanie, wondering if the egg can be substituted with something else? This recipe looks great and I so want to make it for my girl. 🙂
Hi Keerti! You could use a fourth of a cup of unsweetened applesauce instead 🙂
