Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.

Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.

Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.

My Dog Toby

My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).

He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Tell me about your dog!

Dog Cake Recipe Ingredients

*The alcohol in the vanilla extract cooks out during the baking process but you may also substitute alcohol free vanilla extract as well.

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.

I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.

Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Optional  “Frosting” for Dog Cake

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked/peeled potatoes whipped with 1/2 plain Greek yogurt make a great frosting for this cake.
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter + 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt works too!

Best Pan Sizes for this Cake:

I have tried both of these options and find that either works well for this dog cake recipe!

He grabbed the piece and ran out joyously. It was a great hit for him. I tried it too, and it is really good!! Thank you for sharing this.”
  • “Brilliant recipe! Not just for doggies we liked it too!”

  1. Hi Lea! You can use the same kind of baking soda that you would in regular baking. Arm and Hammer brand would do the trick!

  2. SCOREE!!! That’s awesome! Thank you for the update, I truly appreciate it! 😁

  3. Hello! So im making this recipe right now and it seems like my batter is too thick? Or is it supposed to be thick

  4. do you have any treats for cats

    • Hi Joann! Unfortunately I don’t have any cat treats, I don’t have a cat so there’s not test subject, haha! 🙂

  5. I have a line of designer puppy treats (Loganator Biscuits), and my extra-loved-not-spoiled boy, Logan, also had a big party for his first birthday. Although the recipe I tested, and ended up changing almost completely, was okay … I was not overly thrilled with it. Logan and his puppy friends were, but I was not. This recipe looks much nicer, but I have to adjust to gluten free for my boy.

    • Hi Joanne! Thanks for your comment, I hope that you were able to try this and that your boy loved it as much as mine did! 🙂

  6. Hi Yashika, I would say about 4 days stored in an airtight container! (Sorry for my delayed response!) Have a great day!

  7. I’m definitely giving it a try for my newly rescued pup Sophie’s 12th birthday coming up February 7! It’ll be her first birthday spent with me and two of her pup-friends. They’re all smaller breeds, so I think the mini loaf will be the perfect size to divide 3 ways. Thank you for your post. Sophie has been through alot, and deserves something special!!!!!

    • This is so, so, sweet! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I know that Sophie and the other pups will LOVE this!! You are a very good pup parent. This made my day. ❤

  8. Thank you for the recipe. I am making it today for my grandpuppy, and of course my dog. They both get very jealous! Is there some kind of safe icing for them
    .

  9. Making this today for my dog’s birthday. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. It smells delicious. He is whining while it’s baking…..can’t wait for his birthday treat.

    • Hi Veronica!! Awwww that is SOOO sweet, he can’t wait for it to get out of the oven! You’re a great pup mom to that boy, I’m sure he’ll love his birthday surprise! 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to comment, these make my day!

  10. My dog Bluebelle has allergies and can’t have any grains like corn, wheat or soy she can have oat flour so can I substitute that for the flour?

As Seen On…
