Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.

Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.

Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.

My Dog Toby

My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).

He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Tell me about your dog!

Dog Cake Recipe Ingredients

*The alcohol in the vanilla extract cooks out during the baking process but you may also substitute alcohol free vanilla extract as well.

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.

I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.

Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Optional  “Frosting” for Dog Cake

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked/peeled potatoes whipped with 1/2 plain Greek yogurt make a great frosting for this cake.
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter + 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt works too!

Best Pan Sizes for this Cake:

I have tried both of these options and find that either works well for this dog cake recipe!

    • Hi Bella, are you asking what temperature to cook the cake? It says 350 in the recipe, unless you’re asking about something else? Thanks!

  1. I’m making this currently and didn’t add any honey. I also used all natural peanut butter (ingredients include just peanuts). The “batter” came out more like a cookie dough. Hopefully it will still be soft enough for the doggies to eat since they’re not biscuit fans. I made it in a small cake pan though. Fingers crossed!

  2. So I totally just made these for my mother in law dog for her birthday 🎂. So I figured for it being a birthday I would make cupcakes, I baked them for 25 minutes at 350. They probably could have just been cooked for 20-23 mins but anyways her dog absolutely loved them. And I’m not even going to lie I tried a piece and they were really good I was surprised! But thank you so much for this recipe!!!!

    • HAHA oh my gosh Cassy, The first time I read this, I missed the word “dog” thought that you made it for your mother in law! I was like “oh shoot this isn’t going to be good😬” — LOL. Phew!!!! I’m so happy that they turned out well for the DOG, haha! And I took a taste of it too when I first made it! 🤣 — thank you for commenting Cassy! Have a great day!

  3. Hi stepganie, My dog is allergic to peanuts and i was wondering if i could substitute it with almond butter ?

    • Hi Sanjana! I haven’t personally tried this substitution, but the consistencies between the two are so similar, I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work! As long as your pup has had almond butter before, I say give it a go, and just serve it in small portions! 🙂

  4. my dogs loved the cake it toke me so long to find a dog cake that they would like thank you

    • That is excellent news Jeff, I’m so happy to hear it! Thank you for letting me know, you have some lucky pups!

  5. Hiya Stephanie 🙂
Yesterday was my birthday aswell as one of my beautiful doggies too! So i used your wonderful recipe to make a tasty doggy cake for them. I think i may have baked a little too much cake lol, so i was just wondering can the cake be frozen atall?
Myself and my doggies send you many thanks for the great recipe which they absolutely love, the best birthday cake recipe EVER! 🙂 xxx

    • Hey Sophia! I say you can definitely freeze this cake, my thought process is that I’ve frozen normal cakes before, and people freeze wedding cakes right?! hahaha… but seriously, I think that would be just fine! Good idea !

  6. You have natural butter. Do u mean Peanut Butter

  7. thank you! i made this for our dog’s first birthday and she loved it!!

    • Hey Sam! WAHOOOOOO! I’m so happy that your dog was able to enjoy this for her birthday, you’re so sweet for making this for her! Thanks for sharing and rating!

  8. I made this delicious cake for both my dogs today and i was very happy with the end result. the recipe was very easy to follow and did not take too long to mix together and the baking time was great! As when i have followed recipes from other websites for dog cakes the timing for the bake is always longer than stated however this recipe took the exact time represented in the baking instructions 🙂
My dogs thoroughly enjoyed this cake as much as i enjoyed baking it, it was very moist and dogilicious!
I also added an icing of honey and smooth peanut butter, my dogs were lingering by the cake for more 🙂
I think the length of time this cake lasts is good too (i think mine will be gone before 3 days lol) I think its great that this information was included as many recipes don’t state the expiry date.
Thankyou so much CozyCook 🙂 from me and my furry babies Evie and Milo  xx

    • Hi Sophia! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such beautiful comments! I am SO happy that your doggies loved this cake, you are so sweet! I recently babysat a little dog named Evie, I love that name- and Milo is an adorable name too! Thank you so much again and I hope you have a fantastic week!

      -Stephanie

  9. Yesterday I made it for my granddaughters dogs, and they loved it.

    • Awwww I’m sooo happy Elsa, thank you for letting me know what the pups thought of it! What a nice thing for you to do for them!
