This extra creamy crock pot mac and cheese is easy to make & a universal crowd-pleaser! It takes minutes to prepare and the crock pot does the rest!

I can think of nothing better than a Crock Pot loaded with this ultra-creamy mac and cheese. I’ve been known to eat this right out of the Crock Pot before, it’s way too tempting. I love that mac and cheese is a perfect side dish, or meal all on it’s own!
Can This Be Made in the Oven?
You sure can! After boiling the macaroni, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake 30 minutes covered and 30 minutes uncovered. It’s as simple as that!
Can This Be Made in an Instant Pot?
I do have really creamy Instant Pot Mac and Cheese recipe right here for you if you need to cut down on time!
Storing Leftovers
Leftover Macaroni and Cheese should be stored in the refrigerator and is best if eaten withing three days.
Freezing Macaroni and Cheese?
Unfortunately, the consistency of this meal changes quite a bit once frozen and reheated, due to the dairy components, so it’s best to eat it fresh if at all possible.
How to Use Leftover Macaroni and Cheese
If you’re looking for fun ways to use up leftover macaroni and cheese, you could make mac and cheese panini, fried mac and cheese bites, or mac and cheese potato skins!
My Favorite Crock Pot
This is the Crock Pot that I have, I love that you can sear meat right on the stove-top with it.
It also automatically switches to warm once the cooking time is up, which is hugely convenient when you’re out of the house.

Crock Pot Mac and Cheese {Extra Creamy!}
Ingredients
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni noodles, equal to 1/2 lb.
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dry mustard powder
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 3 cups cheddar cheese
- 1 cup gruyere cheese, or additional cup cheddar
- 10.5 oz. cream of chicken soup
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup whole milk, optional
Instructions
- Boil the macaroni noodles for 2 minutes less than instructed on package, you don’t want them entirely cooked through as they’ll do more cooking in the slow cooker.
- Combine all ingredients except the milk in the slow cooker. Cook on high for 2 hours or low for 3, stirring once or twice and keeping an eye on the consistency of the pasta.
- Add up to a cup of warm milk if desired for a creamier consistency.
- Serve warm and enjoy!

I made this mac and cheese recipe using the oven method rather than crockpot. Oh, my goodness, BEST MAC AND CHEESE I have ever tasted made by me OR in a restaurant! I used the ingredients it calls for since it was my first time making it, and all I can say is WOW! This recipe is going in my recipe book; it’s a keeper!
I’m so happy to hear you liked this so much!😀😀😀 My daughter is obsessed with this Mac & Cheese. Thanks so much for the great review Brenda!
I’ve made this twice in the crock pot for large groups – it’s super easy, with great homemade taste. I was kind of weirded out using mayonnaise in macaroni and cheese but trust me… you’ll be happy you did! It’s creamy comfort food that feels indulgent! Great with bacon bits red pepper flakes, jalapeño or smoked meats!
Consistency is good doubling or tripling recipe for large crowds.
Hey Kelley!! I’m so happy taht you enjoyed it! I love the additions that you suggested as well! I was hesitant about mayo the first time I did it too, but you’re right, it just works! 🙂 Thank you so much for the review! -Stephanie
Do you think tripling this recipe would work for a crowd? How would you adjust the times? I have been looking for a good crockpot mac recipe! This is different than any I have seen!
Hi Terri! Tripling would be fine, and shouldn’t require much more cooking time either! 😁 Perfect for a crowd for sure!
I just tripled mine and it was amazing in the stated time!
I made this tonight and it was a big hit with the whole family! I made it on high for 2 hours and it turned out so perfect and creamy!! I wouldn’t change a thing! Thank you so much for the recipe! It was quick and delicious!!!
Hey Christine! I’m SO happy to hear that! You made my night! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and a rating! You’re the BEST! -Stephanie ❤️
To make it vegetarian, would you reccomend cream of celery or cream of cheese soup?
Do I have to boil the noodles before hand? I’m trying to remember an old recipe I found online and it looks like this one but it said to just add uncooked noodles in it.
Yes, you boil the macaroni for 5 minutes for this recipe 🙂
Hi Romana! I would use cream of cheese! 🙂
Best crockpot Mac and cheese I have ever had.
Hey Paula! I’m SO happy to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to rate and comment!! 🙂 -Stephanie
Hey there!
How many servings do you think this recipe makes? I want to use it for our Memorial Day BBQ and we’re going to have about 20 people there.
This sounds so good and I can’t wait to try it!!
Thanks for your help!
Hey Melanie! This makes 6 servings, it’s definitely the PERFECT dish for a BBQ, your guests will love you! 🙂
Can you use miracle whip instead of mayo?
Hi Sarah! That should work fine, though I haven’t tried it myself, if you are an avid miracle whip user, and enjoy that flavor, then you can’t go wrong! 🙂
This recipe is delicious!
