Ingredients
Ingredient quantities and instructions on how to season french fries are located in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Onion salt
- Paprika
- Dried parsley
- Garlic powder
- Dried oregano
- Dried thyme
- Dried basil
- Black pepper

When to Season French Fries
Whether or not you season the french fries before or after they are cooked depends on the cooking method that you use:
- Deep Fried french fries are seasoned immediately after they’re finished frying.
- Baked or Air Fried fries are seasoned before they’re cooked. They’re brushed with olive oil first to allow the seasoning to stick to the fries.
The BEST Way To Season French Fries
The methods below apply to homemade or frozen french fries.
Oven-Baked French Fries
- Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the french fries with olive oil.
- Sprinkle french fry seasoning as evenly as you can over the fries and bake at 400°F until warm and golden brown. about 20 minutes.
Deep-Fried Fries
- Have the combined french fry seasoning ready and use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil once they are golden-brown.
- Place them on a plate lined with paper towels and sprinkle them immediately with french fry seasoning.
Storage
Store in an airtight container. Dried herbs and spices are best if used between 1-3 years.
I recommend making this seasoning in bulk and storing them in these spices jars.

I LOVE THE RECIPE BUT HOW CAN IT KEEP THE DRY INGREDIENTS FROM CLUMPING
The presence of moisture is what causes spices to clump together. If you add some dried beans or rice, it will absorb any excess moisture and prevent them from clumping together. 🙂
Absolutely amazing I love this recipe I tried the oven baked one and they we delicious (I cook them for 35 minutes on 200°C fan)

Made my own onion salt with 1 part onion powder to 3 parts salt, and then followed the recipe. Put the whole shabang in a little pepper grinder and ground it over my freshly cut fries after I sprayed them a bit with olive oil cooking spray. Into the air fryer they went. Came out fantastic. I’ll be making these fries with my delicious low fat burger recipe each week. ❤️
