Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.

Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.

Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.

My Dog Toby

My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).

He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Tell me about your dog!

Dog Cake Recipe Ingredients

*The alcohol in the vanilla extract cooks out during the baking process but you may also substitute alcohol free vanilla extract as well.

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.

I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.

Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Optional  “Frosting” for Dog Cake

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked/peeled potatoes whipped with 1/2 plain Greek yogurt make a great frosting for this cake.
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter + 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt works too!

Best Pan Sizes for this Cake:

I have tried both of these options and find that either works well for this dog cake recipe!

  1. It’s my dog’s birthday coming up and I’d love to try this recipe, but she is diabetic. Do you know if it would still be ok to give her.

    • Hi Helen! I responded to this the other day but unfortunately it looks like it didn’t go through so I apologize for the delay, and apologize even further because I’m not very knowledgeable in regards to what diabetic pups are allowed to eat 🙁 I might recommend checking with your vet or a specialist just in case. I hope you are able to treat her though, Happy Birthday to your pup!!

  2. thank you so much for the recipe!!
I’m sure that soon I will do this cake for my dogs! <3

  3. Love you recipe for homemade doggie cake today was my dog’s birthday and all my five dogs loved it

    • I’m sooooo happy that your 5 pups got to enjoy that delicious doggie cake!! It’s about time I made some more of that for my pooch! 🙂 He LOVES it so much! Thanks for commenting!

  4. Could you substitute pumpkin puree for the carrotts? My dog loves pumpkin and has a little bit of stomach sensitivity and pumpkin works for her tummy issues. Would you still use one cup?

    • Hi Beverly! Since the consistency of puree is so different from shredded carrots, I’m not sure if this would work, but if you do try it, I would only try 1/2 of a cup or maybe even 1/3. It definitely MIGHT work out, let me know if you do give it a go!

  5. I made these today for my grandpuppies. I used a small cookie scoop and baked for ten minutes on the middle oven rack. Came out perfect, kept their shape and moist. My boys loved them!

    • WOOOOO!!!! That’s great news Terri, I LOVE the idea of making them in small portion-sizes like that and it’s great to know that it worked out! My pup is too small for the whole cake so I break it off into pieces but little scoops are even better! Thanks!! So glad your boys enjoyed them!

  6. Can you make cookies with this instead of a cake?

  7. Look good enough to have with coffee in the morning!
