Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.

Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.

Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.

My Dog Toby

My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).

He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Dog Cake Recipe Ingredients

*The alcohol in the vanilla extract cooks out during the baking process but you may also substitute alcohol free vanilla extract as well.

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.

I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.

Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Optional  “Frosting” for Dog Cake

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked/peeled potatoes whipped with 1/2 plain Greek yogurt make a great frosting for this cake.
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter + 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt works too!

Best Pan Sizes for this Cake:

I have tried both of these options and find that either works well for this dog cake recipe!

  1. oops, I forgot to say that I substituted coconut oil for the veggie oil. LOVE IT!

  2. Oh my goodness! I made this cake for my friend’s Golden’s birthday. It was like my Collie and her Golden KNEW it was for them and they immediately sat down pretty, waiting! Also, I wont lie, I tasted it and it’s yummy. I am on a Keto diet and will be adjusting this to fit MY needs. Thank you for a yummy treat for my pups and ultimately for me!

  3. Do these freeze well? I did not make yet so I didn’t rate.

    • Hi Connie! I haven’t frozen them before but I do think that they would freeze well, as this has the same consistency of other cakes that I have frozen.

    • Yes, they freeze well. I cut them into very small pieces and froze them on a cookie sheet before putting into a zip loc. My dog is in love!

  4. Turned out amazing. Made 6 cupcakes out of recipe. Only change I made.

  5. My dog loves this cake. If he doesn’t have any cake when daddy has his dessert he stands there and whines. Now am I not just baking for the hubby but the pup too!

  6. Hi! I made this recipe for my dog’s second birthday cake yesterday and it also came out like a thick dough versus a pourable cake mix. I followed the recipe exact and even triple checked measurements. It still came out fine, very dense like a huge peanut butter cookie and my dog gobbled it up! It was awkward to cut as the shredded carrot seemed to be overboard, so I think I’d put maybe only half a cup of I make this again. Good recipe overall for a quick and easy dog cake!

  7. I made this cake for our Lucy’s 1st Birthday and shared it with her doggy friends, it went down so WOW, I make one often now.

Lucy is 3 on Thursday 12th September, so, I am baking one tomorrow to share with her friends on her special day.

I cover the cake in yeo valley natural yoghurt, let it set, sprinkle grated carrots and cheesy nibbles to decorate 😀😀

    • Hey Lesley! I’m SO happy that you (and your pup and pup friends!) enjoyed this doggie cake! Thank you for sharing your modifications too, that is good to know and will help others when they make this as well! I appreciate it. Have a wonderful day! -Stephanie

  8. Hi,I really want to make this for my dogs 1st birthday! I was wondering what alternative I could use to peanut butter? I’m finding it difficult to find natural peanut butter and I can’t make any.

  9. Wow!
I made this for my dog Pupcake’s birthday, and he LOVED it! He didn’t even sit when we showed it to him (he usually does that when we present to him a new treat.LOL) he grabbed the piece and ran of joyously.😂 it was a great hit for him. I tried it too, and it is really good!! Thank you for sharing this😊

    • Yaaayyy!!! I am SO happy that Pupcake enjoyed the cake!!!!! (Ummmm PUPCAKE is the cutest name ever by the way!)- That is so cute that he grabbed it and ran, lol… sounds like a smart dog tome! 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to let me know how it went! Have a great week! -Stephanie

    • Thank you for your response about almonds. It’s crazy how things will pop up in those lists without proper explanation. I really appreciate the info!
Just made pupcake for our boy’s 1st bday! Husband thought dog cake meant it had dig food in it- ummm you just watched me shred carrots! This is great for human dessert cravings too! The honey adds just enough sweetness. As I told him, it’s not super sweet, it’s more like a muffin. Who doesn’t need healthy treats they can share with the fur babies?

      • No problem!! That is so great that you made this for your pup’s first birthday, that is SO cute! Thank you for letting me know how it came out! 🙂

  10. Wow, I definitely will try this out for my dog
