I know, it’s not a yummy pasta or chicken recipe today, but I have been on a smoothie kick lately- and before you call me boring for it… just hear me out. I brought a smoothie to work one morning a few weeks ago- and I was AMAZED at the amount of energy it gave me. I don’t even need coffee in the morning anymore – (granted, I’d only have a half of a cup in the morning at most anyway), but still, now I don’t have any coffee at all 😉 I wish I started this habit a long time ago. I saw a commercial for a Nutri-Bullet, and listened to all of the stories people had about how they just felt better after working more fruits and vegetables into their diets with smoothies. Since I’m a sucker, I bought the dang thing. But I have to say, they were all RIGHT.
The key to a creamy smoothie is in the yogurt. I love making these for me and my dairy-free friend so when I do, it’s Silk Dairy-Free yogurt alternative from Walmart all the way. I love their flavor options (they have Blueberry, Peach & Mango, Strawberry & Vanilla)- all of which are perfect in this smoothie.
This is honestly a really sneaky way to get in a lot of nutrients for yourself right from the get-go in the morning. You can also add some protein powder, some nuts, and other types of fruit. I am NOT a health nut, I think that’s pretty obvious considering 95% of my recipes contain some kind of cheese and err on the comfort food side of things. But all the more reason to trust me on this one- smoothies are where it’s at. I feel good knowing that once mid-morning has arrived, I’ve already nourished myself pretty good- and my energy levels really show it. (Plus, that just means that I have earned some cheesy goodness later… mwaahahaa…)
My husband even enjoys these morning smoothies! ….Are they pink? YES. Does he avoid using clear containers so that people don’t know that he’s drinking a pink fruity drink? YES. (Sorry Mark, I just blew up your spot.)
