I’m such a sucker for sales. This three-pound pork shoulder was on sale at the store, and I just had to buy it. That pretty much meant that me, my husband, and my two-year-old would each need to eat a pound of pork. 🤔
…Sounds reasonable, right? Luckily, you can freeze leftovers. But first, the ingredients for this recipe:

Freezing Cooked Pork
–You can freeze cooked pork for 2-3 months. Using it later for soups and stews is a great way to avoid wasting it.
I am all about making the most out of a dollar, so this ended up being a remarkable deal.
Best Cuts of Pork for Slow Cooking
-Pork shoulders are the best for slow cooking. They have a higher fat content that breaks down during the cooking process, leaving you with an incredibly tender, melt-in-your-mouth consistency.
–The Pork belly and cheek also work well in the slow cooker.
-If you can’t find a whole pork shoulder at the grocery store, a Boston Butt is the next best choice, which is half of the shoulder. The other half of the shoulder is called the picnic shoulder.
How Long do you Cook Pork in the Slow Cooker
-A 3 lb. pork shoulder takes approximately 5 hours to cook on high, and about 8 hours on low. The pork is done when it can fall apart with just the touch of a fork.
My Favorite Crock Pot
This is the Crock Pot that I have, I love that you can sear meat right on the stove-top with it.
It also automatically switches to warm once the cooking time is up, which is hugely convenient when you’re out of the house.
What to Serve with Roast Pork

- Buttermilk Biscuits or TX Roadhouse Rolls
- Twice Baked Potato Casserole

Crock Pot Pork Roast with Gravy
Ingredients
- 3 lb. Pork Shoulder, give or take in size
- 10.5 oz. cream of chicken soup
- 10.5 oz. cream of mushroom soup
- .87 oz. packet pork gravy mix
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 2 cups carrots
Pork Seasoning
- 1 tsp rosemary
- 3/4 tsp oregano
- 3/4 tsp thyme
- 3/4 tsp sage
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Mix the soups and gravy mix together in the slow cooker.
- Pat the pork dry with paper towels and press seasoning mix firmly onto the surface of the pork.
- Add the pork to the slow cooker along with the carrots and sliced onions.
- Cook on low for 8-9 hours, or on high for 5.
- Serve with potatoes and enjoy!
Notes
- You can also use a packet of onion soup mix instead of pork gravy mix.
- Additionally, 2 cans of cream of chicken may be used instead of cream of mushroom, (or vice versa).
- My slow cooker is a 6 quart and works well for this recipe.
- I add 2 cups of frozen green beans for the remaining 30 minutes of cooking.
I want to make this tomorrow … could I brown it in a skillet before putting omg the crock pot?
You sure can! That would add a nice texture!
This recipe was absolutely delicious. I substituted the cream of mushroom for cream of celery because it’s what I had on hand! But everything else I followed! A new family favorite!
Hey Holly! I’m SO happy that you enjoyed this and were able to make an easy substitution!! 🙂 Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review my friend!!
Hi Stephanie I wanna make this in Wednesday have few of the kids coming over I know probably silly question but wanna make this 100% right I’m gonna need pork gravy mix along with the pork seasonings right I don’t usually do roasts haha but this sounds delicious
Hey Angela! Yes! You’ll use seasonings and the gravy packet! 🙂 If you have any other questions you can also watch the video on the post that shows you how to make the recipe from start to finish! ENJOY!! -Stephanie
Hi. I’m planning on making this recipe tomorrow and I forgot the cream of chicken soup. Can I just use cream of mushroom?? Going to the grocery store the Saturday before Christmas doesn’t sound appealing to me 😂😂
Cream of mushroom is just fine! I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid that my friend! 🙂 -Stephanie
If I did potatoes with this would I need to add chicken broth?
Hey Jenny! I don’t think you’d need to add chicken broth, there is enough moisture in there without it. If you did add some, just stick to a little bit. 🙂
When doubling the recipe how much time do I need to add?
Hi Brandy, I haven’t cooked a 6 lb. roast in the Crock Pot, but I would add about 2 hours on low or high. Enjoy!
When putting the cream of chicken and mushroom soup do I need to add water to the crockpot or just the soups as is?
Just add the soup as is! Enjoy!
My pork shoulder is bone in. Is that okay?
Totally fine Susan!! It’ll be great, and extra flavorful with the bone! -Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
I made this yesterday. Great Sunday dinner! I had a some additions. I added cumin, garlic, sliced mushrooms, and for the last couple of hours added small whole potatoes. I also used two onions. I did not have pork gravy mix, so instead used Lipton onion mushroom soup mix (I should have halved this because I believe it made it a bit too salty). It was really god though and thank you for the recipe.
-Paul
Hi Paul! Your additions sound fantastic, I’ll keep that in mind for next time I make it, yum! Nicely done, thank you for sharing! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! -Stephanie
